There’s nothing like a trip to DC to make you feel like an American. I went there with my family in April, and we saw the Congess, the various Smithsonian institutions, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Archives, and lots of other fascinating things. Just as all Muslims have to make a pilgrimage to Mecca once, all Americans should visit their capital city at least once in their lifetimes.
The picture above was taken at the ring of flags surrounding the Washington Monument. We weren’t able to go up inside of it, but on a clear and beautiful afternoon, it wasn’t necessary. Just being there was good enough.
The American flag stirs up lots of emotions in me. And so celebrating the adoption of the flag, which happened 234 years ago in the midst of the Revolution, seems like a natural thing to do. Just think of it as a warm up for the 4th of July.
