sweep

This has been a hard year to be a Cubs fan. The team will be lucky to lose anything less than 90 games, and the sell-off of any talent they have has already begun. But at least they swept the White Sox, which doesn’t mean a whole lot but at least it’s something.  wrote a few words about it on ThroughTheFenceBaseball, and it was published today. Have a look, if you’re so inclined.

The season is just about halfway over, and I’d love to say there’s a pennant race that the Cubs will be involved in. But only an optimist or a fool would get too excited about the Cubs’ chances at this point. And I’m certainly neither one of those. There’s always next year, right?

  1. I don’t know about that just yet. The Cubs took the first game against the Angels and are poised to win another one. They’re playing great ball and could compete for a Wild Card spot. Agreed, it’s a steep hill, but stranger things have happened.

    1. Cleansing the bullpen of Marmol will be the pivotal moment if it does. I’m not convinced that Soriano won’t be traded, though. The obsession of the new regime with prospects and young guys and players they can control means Sori’s as good as gone. But we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for reading.
