The title of this post sounds like a bad after school special, but it’s actually two subjects that I wrote about over the weekend. The Greg Maddux piece appears on ThroughTheFenceBaseball, while the A-Rod piece is on FiveWideSports. As the NFL has its playoffs going on, and the other professional team sports are doing theirContinue reading “Mad-dog and A-Rod”

He’s not moving up anytime soon
The picture above makes it clear that Alex Rodriguez was in a lot of pain. Taking a big-league pitch–of any type–off of one’s hand can’t possibly be a pleasant experience. Seeing him writhing on the ground was hard to watch, on a human level. But having said that, it’s hard to muster up much sympathyContinue reading “He’s not moving up anytime soon”
Say it ain’t so
Unlike a lot of people who pay attention to these things, I was supportive of Ryan Braun’s recent MVP award. Goin’ to the Show
Bull Durham is one of my favorite movies, and I’ve written about it here. I had never heard the majors referred to as “The Show” before the movie came out, but ever since I saw it, the majors are now “The Show.” MLB itself has licensed the term to Sony, and they have used itContinue reading “Goin’ to the Show”

For starters, there is a Walk of Fame type of sidewalk display on the streets surrounding it, where you can see home-plate shaped plaques with different players’ names on them.Continue reading “An innovative design”
My blue hat’s off to Jim Thome
This won’t be a pleasant topic to address. There isn’t any physical pain or suffering involved, only mental anguish on my part. And of course it has to do with being a Cubs fan. What a great life I might have if baseball didn’t matter to me, or I was a fan of a teamContinue reading “My blue hat’s off to Jim Thome”
