The picture above makes it clear that Alex Rodriguez was in a lot of pain. Taking a big-league pitch–of any type–off of one’s hand can’t possibly be a pleasant experience. Seeing him writhing on the ground was hard to watch, on a human level. But having said that, it’s hard to muster up much sympathy

It’s about time for a good baseball movie

One of my favorite baseball quotes comes from Rick Reilly, who wrote that “Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for Brad Pitt to get laid.” Everyone who isn’t a Yankees fan can appreciate what that means, and Yankees fans themselves might even agree that they’ve had it so much better than everyone else over
